Kick-off Material Workshop > MATERIALS & TEXTURES HUNTING

Material: Photo camera. Postproduction: Photoshop, A4 color printer.
Deliverables: A4 size contact sheets (color). Contact sheets contain small-size reproductions of your pictures (or a selection) *.

1. Choose one street BLOCK around the Vans shop. Pick a block having one side directly looking into  Gran Vía and/or into Calle Montera. Locate the block in the map.

2. Walk around the whole perimeter of the block. LOOK closely to every detail you find, in all directions.
CAPTURE with the camera all the interesting details and moments you encounter. If you are not sure, it is better you take the picture.
Look up, down, to the sides. Windows, walls, doors, entry ways. Gaps, textures, objects, trees, drawings, stickers. Reflections, shadows, lights, banners…
In conclusion, photograph anything interesting, visually and tactile-wise (sensorially) attractive.
Act as a “hunter” of interesting objects, materials, effects and textures.

3. If you find any interesting material or object that you can transport and take with you, you may do so, and bring it to class.

*Adobe Photoshop (CS2, CS3) has an automatic tool doing this sheets for you:
File-Automate-Contact_Sheet.
To create contact sheets with Photoshop CS5, use the Adobe Output Module in Adobe Bridge:
